Avoid ticks and insect bites (protective clothing, repellents, permethrin). Wear gloves and masks if you want to touch wild animals (e.g. the field work of a biologist), certainly if these are rabbits in an endemic area. Shot game has to be very thoroughly cooked before it can be eaten. In the USA there is a live attenuated vaccine against tularaemia, used by people with high-risk occupations. Using leaf blowers to clear gardens, streets or parks in areas with tularaemia is not advised (airborne transmission via contaminated dust).
