ITM and the KU Leuven are part of a group of international organisations that will carry out Zika research with funding from the European Union. Last Friday, the European Commission announced it made 45 million euro available for research into the Zika virus and other infectious diseases spread by mosquitoes.
The malaria mosquito is getting used to insecticides and therefore increasingly bites during the day and outside the home. This means that more needs to be done in addition to the use of mosquito nets in order to further reduce the incidence of malaria.
2015 is a crucial year for development cooperation: on the one hand we reach the deadline for the millennium goals and on the other hand we will set course for a new orientation of sustainable development cooperation. Under the motto "Our world, our dignity, our future", the development cooperation of the EU and its Member States will be presented to the main public.
