Le Prof. Dr Dominique Le Ray a pris sa pension en mars 2002 après 30 ans de services à l’Unité de Protozoologie du département de Parasitologie, où il assumait la fonction de Chef de service avec le Prof. Dr Marc Wéry. Expert en protozoologie, ses sujets de prédilection étaient la leishmaniose et les trypanosomatidés. Il travaille aujourd’hui à la préparation d’un ouvrage consacré au 100e anniversaire de l’IMT.

Le Prof. Dr Guido van der Groen a pris sa pension, après 30 ans de services. Il avait assumé la direction de l’Unité de Virologie du département de Microbiologie et était un scientifique réputé, tant au sein de l’IMT qu’au niveau international. Il fut parmi les premiers experts à se rendre au Congo lors de la première épidémie d’Ebola, en 1976. Il a ensuite, en 1996, organisé un colloque international sur Ebola.
Ces 15 dernières années, il a été un expert de premier plan dans la recherche relative au sida.

Els Van den Eynde a pris sa pré-pension en juin 2002, après 30 années passées au service audiovisuel. Toujours très ponctuelle et on ne peut plus ordonnée, elle a procédé à l’archivage d’une multitude de photos, diapositives et autres vidéos, de même qu’elle a réalisé d’innombrables albums photo que l’on peut désormais admirer aux quatre coins du monde, grâce aux anciens étudiants.
Veerle Dupont a pris sa pré-pension après près de 18 ans de bons et loyaux services. Elle avait débuté aux services généraux, l’actuel service des achats, avant de mettre ses compétences artistiques au service des services graphiques. C’est elle qui fut le véritable moteur de l’exposition artistique du personnel de l’IMT, à l’occasion d’Anvers 93.
Isolde De Schampheleire a pris sa pension en octobre 2002, après avoir assumé pendant près de 5 ans la fonction de tuteur du Master in Disease Control. Elle assurait à merveille le soutien et le réconfort de ses étudiants.
Yves Claes a pris sa pré-pension en septembre 2002, après 31 années de service. Il avait débuté sa carrière à Kinshasa, avant de la poursuivre ensuite, sans interruption, au sein du laboratoire de Parasitologie. Ces trois dernières années, il avait tout particulièrement eu à cœur sa fonction dans l’enseignement pratique. Il a aujourd’hui mis fin à sa carrière au sein de l’IMT, mais reste actif dans le domaine de la coopération au développement.
Wiske Meuris a pris sa pension le 1er novembre 2002, après 29 années de bons et loyaux services en qualité de femme de ménage. Son ardeur à la tâche et sa bonne humeur permanente nous manqueront assurément.
