ITM is an autonomous institute with an interuniversity character, which draws its core funding from the Flemish Ministries of Education, programme funding from the Federal Ministries of Development Cooperation, Public Health and Science Policy, and project funding from a range of national and international science and development agencies.
The Institute is set up as a foundation of public utility whereby the Board of Governors has full powers to perform all acts of management and decision making, as stated in the revised bylaws which came into effect on 31 January 2018. The Board of Governors delegates day-to-day administrative management to the Executive Director and the Management Committee. The General Council, a statutory supervisory body, appoints the Board of Governors.
The General Council appoints, evaluates and dismisses the members of the Board of Governors. It is composed of members appointed by government authorities and Flemish universities as well as representatives of other ITM stakeholders such ITM staff, ITM students, ITM alumni and other co-opted members. The General Council shall ensure that the policy, administration and management of the Institute are in accordance with its purpose, identity and integrity.
The Institute is looking for candidate-members of its new Board of the Governors composed of maximum 12 members with expertise in the following fields:
- Clinical, biomedical and epidemiological research
- Higher education and training
- Medical services and expertise
- Academic policy and management
- Capacity building and development cooperation
- Information technology
- Human resources
- The corporate business world, especially the biomedical sector
- Government and political world
The board members also need to have strategic competencies, interpersonal skills, and a broad vision and knowledge.
The Board of Governors will convene 5 times a year during 2 hour meetings in ITM’s offices in Antwerp, including one 4-hour strategic session. The language during the meetings is Dutch.
Candidates can send their motivation letter and resume to Yolande Avontroodt, chair of the General Council, by 15 April 2018. All candidacies are treated strictly confidentially. The General Council shall finalise these appointments by 20 June 2018 upon advice of a selection commission.
