The Microbiology Research Group is comprised of three research units conducting fundamental and translational biomedical research to enhance the control of diseases caused by:
- Mycobacterium tuberculosis,Ā M. leprae, andĀ M. ulceransĀ (Mycobacteriology Unit)
- Arboviruses (Virology Unit)
- Plasmodium parasites, with a focus on the interactions between malaria parasites and Anopheles mosquitoes (Experimental Immunology Unit)
The group shares common research questions, expertise and technologies inĀ fundamental and translationalĀ biomedical research to improve theĀ diagnosis, treatment, surveillance and control of mycobacteria, viruses, andĀ malaria vectors, as well as to understandĀ host and vector immunity against pathogensĀ and exploit it forĀ new control tools, treatments and vaccines.
