Qualitative and Mixed Methods in International Health Research

I followed the QMM course in 2020, and when I finished, I led the field work coordination and data collection in Tanzania for a research project of Lenka Benova, ITM Professor on Maternal and Reproductive Health. The goal was to improve my research skills and be ready for leading the field work within the in-dept case study of large maternity wards in four countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, that also included Tanzania. The QMM was very handy, I could immediately apply everything I had learnt during the data collection and analysis of the collected data. This further led to engaging with other brilliant researchers : I supported both Aline Semaan and Jil Molenaar, ITM researchers, on their Phd work in Tanzania, among many others. I followed Write your paper based on DHS data on reproductive and child health” and a few years later, in 2022, I received the competitive DGD PhD sandwich scholarship. And now, August 2026, I am defending my PhD. So for me, the QMM was the starting point of my learning path at ITM. It gave me additional necessary skills I needed to apply methods in research.
