Inheritance tax
Do you live in Flanders?
Since 1 July 2021, charitable organisations have been fully exempt from inheritance tax in Flanders. This means that ITM does not pay inheritance tax on bequests it receives.
As a result, your bequest goes entirely towards the purpose you choose. Whether you wish to support education, scientific research, our healthcare and social services at the outpatient clinic, or a specific project, your legacy will fully benefit society.
Do you live in Brussels or Wallonia?
Different rules apply in the Brussels-Capital Region and the Walloon Region. When ITM receives a bequest from a resident of Brussels or Wallonia, it pays a reduced inheritance tax rate of 7%.
In these regions, a legacy under a dual bequest arrangement can still be an attractive and tax-efficient solution, provided that the will is correctly drafted. We recommend seeking advice from your notary or contacting our legal experts for further information.
How can you include ITM in your will?
There are several ways to include ITM in your will:
Universal bequest: You leave (part of) your estate to ITM.
Bequest under universal title: You leave a certain percentage of your estate to ITM.
Special bequest: You leave a specific amount or a particular asset to ITM.
It is important to clearly state the following details in your will:
