About the study

ITM is currently conducting a study to learn which factors play a role in the malaria risk of travellers and how prevention strategies can be improved. If you plan to travel to a malaria risk country in Africa, you are invited to take part in this research study.

Who is eligible?

  • You are 18 years or older

  • You are soon travelling to one or more of the following countries: Angola, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Comoros, Djibouti, Congo (Brazzaville), Congo (Democratic Republic), Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea (Conakry), Guinee-Bissau, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda or Zambia.

  • The duration of your trip is between seven days and two months.

  • One member per family can participate, unless you are travelling independently.

Note that your destination country will be recorded once at the start of your trip to ascertain whether you visited one of the high-risk malaria countries mentioned above.

What do you have to do?

  • You will answer four short, anonymous tick-box questionnaires, at different points in time, about the malaria preventive measures you take. Each questionnaire will take about one to three minutes to complete.

What are the benefits?

  • Upon completion of the four questionnaires, you have the option to select a gift card of your preference. You can choose between a Bol.com gift card of 15 euros, or a cinema ticket (Kinepolis). International participants will be offered an Amazon gift card.

  • You will contribute to scientific knowledge.
