Departments, groups & units

Our three scientific departments focus on Pathogens, Patients and Populations and contribute to our four core tasks: research, education, medical service delivery and development cooperation.

  • public-health

    Department of Public Health

We study health systems (the organisation and operation of health services), epidemiology and disease control on population level.

  • clinical-sciences

    Department of Clinical Sciences

We investigate the diagnosis and treatment of tropical diseases, carry out clinical trials with new drugs, and study the diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases, with special attention for STIs, HIV and TB.

  • biomedical-sciences

    Department of Biomedical Sciences

We strive to reduce suffering from tropical infectious diseases around the world. We do this by generating fundamental insights in pathogen-host-vector interactions, by studying adaptation patterns and drivers of pathogens and vectors to changing macro and micro-environments, and by innovating tools to improve diagnosis, surveillance, prevention, treatment and control of infectious diseases.
