"Beastly" scientific heritage in pictures

On the corner of Nationalestraat and Kronenburgstraat stands an imposing building which accommodates the Institute of Tropical Medicine (ITM). Its signature Art Deco façade surely is an eye-catcher in the street. But did you know that for more than 100 years, researchers of ITM have been studying how animals are responsible for human diseases? Exceptional images from our photo archive are displayed in the building's most beautiful rooms while conveying the story of ITM's impressive architecture, history and current activities, including the vital role of animals in scientific research. Throughout the exhibition, there will be knowledgeable guides ready to give additional details. Eager to find out what goes on inside the institute? Feel free to drop by between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. through the main entrance (side Nationalestraat) to explore the exhibition on your own.

Interested in a more in-depth tour of our heritage? We are organizing two guided tours on April 23 in addition to the free photo exhibition:

  • From 11am. to 12pm. (20 spots)

  • From 1 pm to 2 pm. (20 spots)

Book a spot before Friday 21 April (4 pm) at communicatie@itg.be. Spots are limited, so don't wait too long!

Travelling to ITM

Because of the Antwerp 10 Miles, the city centre will be difficult to access for motorised traffic. Roads will be closed and parking spaces will be limited. Plan your journey with NMBS or park at one of the Park and Rides around Antwerp (and hop on a tram or shared bike).

Maybe some other time?

Would you rather discover the institute on another day and do so with your association or organisation? We organise individual guided tours for groups of up to 20 people. Send an e-mail to communicatie@itg.be or call us on 03 247 66 66.
