About this event

World Malaria Day is an opportunity to share malaria-related research findings and insights, highlighting the need for continued investment and sustained political commitment to malaria prevention, treatment and controI.

On the occasion of this year’s World Malaria Day, ITM PhD student Luis Esteban Cabrera Sosa will present the challenges of malaria elimination in Peru. Despite the launch of the national malaria elimination plan in 2022, reducing the number of cases in Peru in recent years has been difficult. In this scenario, malaria molecular surveillance (MMS) can be a useful tool in addressing these challenges.

In this webinar, Luis will share the current state of malaria epidemiology in the Peruvian Amazon, challenges for malaria elimination and how MMS can support efforts in overcoming them.

The Q&A session will be moderated by Anna Rosanas-Urgell, Luis' PhD co-supervisor and Head of the Malariology Unit at the ITM Department of Biomedical Sciences.
