Despite more than 40 years of progress, stigma remains a major challenge in HIV care. People living with HIV unfortunately face prejudice on a daily basis. Stigma labels, brands and sticks to people, and this has to stop. Exactly for this reason, social nurses Cora Lamonte and Wenne Mertens have been organising the annual U=U campaign since 2020 to raise awareness and call out for support of people living with HIV.
What is U=U?
The message of our campaign is twofold:
YOU=YOU emphasises equality between people living with or without a disease such as HIV.
U=U (Undetectable = Untransmittable) means that, if HIV medication is used correctly, the virus is no longer detectable and therefore not transmittable sexually.
Curious to learn more? After a successful edition in 2023, we are back at Antwerp Pride this year! Drop by our booth in the Pride Village on Saturday 10 August between 3pm and 8pm. A team of enthusiastic colleagues will provide you with a colourful stick-on tattoo and give more information about our campaign. Join us in fighting discrimination against people living with HIV!
