Background

25th of April - World Malaria Day - is an occasion to share alumni insights and research findings on malaria-related research, highlighting the need for continued investment and sustained political commitment for malaria prevention, treatment and controI.

In this webinar, ITM alumna and PhD student Thuan Thi Nguyen shares her PhD research findings on malaria elimination strategies among ethnic minority populations in Vietnam using qualitative and mixed methods. Her research aims to understand the interplay between human mobility, persistent malaria transmission and interethnic relation.

Thuan mainly focuses on her findings on why and how mobility and territorial behaviour influenced the effectiveness of malaria elimination strategy in different ethnic minority settings. The presentation provides an insight into the socioeconomic and political environment which shapes the mobility strategy of different ethnic minority groups, interethnic tension and trust of the populations in public health interventions.

The Q&A session will be moderated by Thuan’s PhD cosupervisor Koen Peeters Grietens, Professor and Head of the Socio-ecological Health Research Unit at ITM.
