Informations générales
The short course Ecology, Epidemiology, and Control of Infectious Diseases introduces participants to the concepts and applications of eco-epidemiological models for infectious disease control. The course is offered online in collaboration with the University of Antwerp, Belgium. Please note that no scholarships are available for this course.
Objectifs d'apprentissage
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Explain the ecology of infectious diseases and how ecological dynamics inform the development of control strategies.
- Apply mathematical models of the susceptible–infectious–recovered (SIR) type to analyze outbreak data through practical exercises.
- Understand the theoretical assumptions underlying the concept of R0 (basic reproduction number).
- Describe how environmental and climate changes influence the distribution of infectious diseases by affecting parasites, vectors, and hosts.
- Explain how new pathogens emerge and identify key drivers of emergence.
- Discuss how environmental interventions can support infectious disease management.
