Introduction to Zoonoses

About the course

General information

This module will introduce you to the classification, transmission and drivers of zoonoses as well as basic approaches to control these diseases.

Be familiar with and distinguish between the terms and definitions used in the context zoonoses.
Correctly classify zoonoses using different classification systems.
Describe the aetiology and source(s) of infection for humans
Know the impact of selected zoonoses on human and animal health
Understand the importance of different approaches to the diagnosis and control of selected zoonoses
Distinguish between the different risk factors and the epidemiological settings they are applicable to.
Identify risk groups and populations for the transmission as well as the emergence of zoonotic pathogens.
Explain and rank the risks of zoonotic diseases in different settings and populations.
Differentiate between the main principles of disease control in animal and humans.
Evaluate the suitability of certain control measures to specific types of zoonoses.
Explain the role of veterinary health and human health professionals in the control of zoonoses.
