General information

This module will introduce you to the concept and application of policy-making, particularly in the context of southern Africa.

Learning objectives

  • Knowledge of the context in which policy is created and factors that affect its development and quality.
  • Understand the role and impact of evidence, or lack thereof, in policy making.
  • Knowledge of countries’ differing approaches to bovine tuberculosis in their reservoir hosts and how this affects international policy guidelines
  • Knowledge of differing approaches to avian flu, how the risk can be mitigated and what policy development/implementation is needed to deliver this
  • Understand different perspectives on the merits and value of animal identification.
