About the course

General information

The objective of this module is to equip candidates with the ability to:

  • Professionally plan and undertake a research project
  • Collect and analyse data
  • Apply a scientific style of writing in the presentation of research
  • Prepare effective poster and oral presentations

Learning objectives

  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of effectively retrieving and managing information.
  • Apply the principles of citing and referring to scientific writing.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the principles of scientific method which involved formulating questions, collecting data, study design and testing hypotheses.
  • Apply knowledge to formulate title, aim(s), objectives and ethics.
  • Formulate study design, data collection, data analysis and time table.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the principles of effective project planning and budgeting.
  • Analyse a project for potential risks.
  • Evaluate the impact of identified risks and place a mitigation plan in place for the identified risk/s
  • Apply the principles of making effective oral and poster presentations.
