Alumni webinar - Celebrating Women in Science (Ibukun Abejirinde)
Online

Ibukun Abejirinde trained as a medical doctor and completed her PhD in Global Health as an Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorate Fellow at the Institute of Tropical Medicine Antwerp in Belgium, the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in the Netherlands, and the University of Barcelona in Spain. She currently works as a scientist at the Institute for Better Health, Trillium Health Partners, in Ontario, Canada. She is also an Assistant Professor (status) at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto.
In this webinar, Ibukun will reflect on her academic journey, studies, and career trajectory in research, science, and academia. Her experience as a woman in science is also shaped by her identity as an immigrant from Nigeria, West Africa. Her experiences and reflections will serve as a starting point for a discussion on the opportunities and challenges that women and girls in science may encounter in their careers.
The Q&A session will be moderated by Engy Sawah, Researcher in the ITM Unit of Equity and Health, and a member of ITM’s Working Group on Gender and Diversity.
