ITM @Nerdland Festival 2024

Help us prevent the next outbreak!
Will you help us control the spread of mosquitoes and parasites? Together with our entomologists, malariologists and molecular parasitologists, you will learn through play about outbreaks and how to prevent them.
The entomologists of ITM will provide both demonstrations and hands-on activities that are fun for all ages. Put your knowledge about the tiger mosquito to the test and participate in our 'The Smartest Mosquito in the World' quiz. You will discover what the natural enemies of mosquitoes are by feeding live mosquito larvae to animals such as fish and water beetles. Our entomologists will teach you how to avoid and control these mosquitoes and will gladly tell you about the risks these mosquitoes bring.
Our malariologists and molecular parasitologists also have all kinds of activities in store for you. They will teach you about parasites, genetics, evolution, laboratory work and the research we do at ITM. Become a lab technician and study parasites up close through our microscopes. Learn through play how to remove pathogens from populations.
Drop by and help our scientists face small and large pathogens. We look forward to seeing you there!
Go on a virus scavenger hunt!
Are you ready to be a hero in the fight against invisible enemies? In the Nerdland Jungle, a mission awaits you at the Institute of Tropical Medicine. Equipped with an adventure map in hand, you head out into the field in search of the stealthy spreaders of diseases, such as the tiger mosquito and the tsetse fly. These little critters are the culprits behind major threats such as the yellow fever virus and sleeping sickness.
Your assignment? Find them all and unravel how we can work together to stop the next pandemic. It will be a race against time! And who knows, maybe you'll be the one to win the coveted sleuth trophy. Put on your adventure boots, put on your scavenger cap and prove that you are the ultimate disease fighter. Your adventure begins now!
