Before vaccines or drugs can be used in the general population, their safety and effectiveness are thoroughly investigated in clinical trials.
What we do
The Clinical Trial Centre (CTC) of ITM conducts clinical trials with healthy volunteers, as well as with patients that are affected by specific conditions (such as infectious diseases). Participants are selected, treated and monitored, according to a highly regulated procedure and international guidelines for 'good clinical practice' (GCP). The CTC also studies new diagnostic tests that determine whether a person is affected by a disease.

We are researching vaccines and medicines against tropical infectious diseases, but also against diseases that occur worldwide, such as COVID-19, HIV and STIs. We do this in cooperation with partners from academia and life sciences.
