Myrthe Pareyn, (Ā°1993), Master in Biomedical Sciences - Tropical and Infectious Diseases (University of Antwerp, 2016), PhD in Biology: āDistribution, transmission dynamics and diagnostics of cutaneous leishmaniasis in southern Ethiopia, as a basis for disease managementā (University of Antwerp, 2020).
In 2016, she was based as researcher in rural Cambodia for fieldwork where she conducted an epidemiological study on malaria.
As a PhD researcher, she also conducted a lot of field work in remote areas in Ethiopia, where she developed skills in entomology, ecology, epidemiology, modeling and molecular diagnostics for leishmaniasis.
In November 2020 she joined the Neglected Tropical Diseases Unit (Clinical Sciences Department) at the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp as a post-doctoral researcher.
Her research currently focuses on the improvement and decentralization of treatment for cutaneous leishmaniasis and diagnostics for visceral leishmaniasis, mainly in Ethiopia.
Her interests include capacity building. She is passionate about teaching, giving trainings and supervising students.
She invests strongly in the support and development of molecular laboratories in low-resource settings.
