By bike
The bicycle is an excellent mode of transport for getting around in Antwerp.
Owned bike
There are bicycle racks along the street in Kronenburgstraat. There is also a small bike rack right at the clinic entrance (through the gate on the left) where you can park your bike.
Shared bike
Don't have your own bike at your disposal? There is a Velo station (name "Tropisch Instituut") right in front of the clinic entrance. There are other options for renting a bike as well.
By public transportation
With three train stations, Antwerp is very accessible by train. There are also several tram and bus lines that can take you to ITM. Avoid stress and plan your trip in advance:
Plan your train journey via the SNCB website/application.
View all options for bus and tram via De Lijn's route planner.

By car
Antwerp is a low emission zone with limited parking possibilities. Avoid coming to the city by car.
Low emission zone
The most polluting cars do not have access to the low emission zone in Antwerp. This applies to most diesel cars produced before 2005 and gasoline cars produced before 1992. Check whether you are allowed to enter the city with your vehicle. The city has no database of foreign cars. Therefore, you should always register your car, which should be done no later than 24 hours after entering the low emission zone. If you have to pay for admission, you must apply for your permit no later than one day before you plan on coming to Antwerp.
Parking
Parking your car in Antwerp can be expensive, as you’ll have to pay to park in most of the streets. Spaces are limited as well. Since 1 August 2023, only residents and permit holders are allowed to park on the street in the city centre.
If you do come by car, the following options are available to you:
1. Park-and-Rides (P+R)
Park your car at a low cost and without a time limit in one of the Park-and-Rides (P+R) close to the city centre. Then hop on a tram or bus to travel to the city centre. Will you park in P+R Merksem, P+R Luchtbal or P+R Linkeroever? Buy a combined ticket in the De Lijn app and pay for your parking and return ticket all in one at a cheaper rate.
2. Car parks
Paid parking in the vicinity is possible at:
Waalsekaai 1A, 2000 Antwerp
Approx. 7 min. on foot
Waalsekaai 69A, 2000 Antwerp
Approx. 15 min. on foot
Parking Indigo Antwerpen Groenplaats
Groenplaats 46, 2000 Antwerp
Approx. 15 min. on foot

New parking policy for historic centre since August 1, 2023!
The City of Antwerp works to create a walking-friendly city centre for both visitors and residents. Since 1 August 2023, only residents and permit holders are allowed to park on the street in the city centre.
As a visitor (without a visitor pass), you are not allowed to park on the street within this new zone for permit holders since 1 August 2023. The Institute is on the edge of this parking zone and while Kronenburgstraat is not part of it, it still has an impact on parking possibilities nearby.
We recommend coming by public transportation or parking your car in a covered car park or P+R.
