Gert Scheerder obtained a masters’ degree in Psychology and a PhD in Medical Sciences at the University of Leuven (KUL) and a postgraduate degree in International Politics at the University of Antwerp (UA). He started his career as a junior researcher at the Flemish Institute of Health Promotion, then made a PhD on mental health care at LUCAS center for care research (KUL) and worked at Sensoa (Flemish Expertise Center for Sexual Health) on quality of life of people living with HIV. In 2021, he joined the HIV and Sexual Health Research Group at the Institute of Tropical Medicine. His areas of interest are HIV prevention (in particular PrEP), quality of life, mental health and HIV stigma. He is coordinator of the Belgian PrEP Network and is involved in teaching courses on design and evaluation of health programmes.
