TYF study

ITM and UAntwerp are coordinating a study to examine the immune response to the yellow fever vaccination in volunteers.

ITM and UAntwerp would like to study the immune response to the yellow fever vaccination (follow-up of six weeks). Note that the yellow fever vaccine (Stamaril®) we will use has been approved in Belgium since 2005.

Who is eligible?

  • You are available to participate for six weeks (no travelling during this period) in the short term (starting January 16, January 18, and March 2024).

  • You have not been vaccinated against yellow fever before.

  • You are willing to receive the yellow fever vaccine as protection for an upcoming trip abroad (any time in the future) to an area where yellow fever is prevalent.

What do you have to do?

  • You will sign an informed consent form.

  • You will come to the travel clinic of ITM for two consultations.

  • You will undertake blood sampling (seven in total) on day 1 (pre-vaccination), day 2, day 8, day 15, day 22, day 29, day 43.

What are the benefits?

  • You will receive a compensation of 35 euros per blood sample (if taken at home or at the Institute of Tropical Medicine) or 70 euros per blood sample (if taken at Vaccinopolis, UZA).

  • You will receive a free yellow fever vaccine for lifelong protection.

  • You will get a free pre-travel consultation if you are planning to travel.

  • You will contribute to scientific knowledge.
