Hello everyone! I am Willy Le Roi Togna Pabo, and I am thrilled to join ITM. With a robust background in Microbiology, Medical Virology, and a Master's degree in Epidemiology from the University of Antwerp, I bring a wealth of experience and passion to our team.
Previously, I served as a Research Fellow at the Chantal Biya International Reference Centre for Research on HIV/AIDS Prevention and Management in Yaoundé, Cameroon, from November 2018 to September 2022. During this period, I spearheaded several research initiatives focused on HIV drug resistance among adolescents with perinatally acquired HIV. My work involved assessing therapeutic responses, understanding HIV genetic diversity, and monitoring the emergence of drug resistance to antiretroviral therapy.
Notable projects included:
- Conducting a cross-sectional study on HIV-1 drug resistance and genetic diversity in rural Cameroon.
- Leading a cohort study on the impact of HIV-1 genetic diversity on therapeutic response.
- Contributing to groundbreaking research presented at national and international conferences.
In addition to my HIV research, I played a significant role in the routine molecular diagnosis of COVID-19 and co-led a project assessing the diagnostic performance of molecular and serological tests for SARS-CoV-2.
I am delighted to embark on this new journey as a researcher in the Sexual Health including HIV Research Group at ITM. In my free time, I am a huge fan of movies and series, especially those filled with suspense and adventure. I also enjoy reading, taking relaxing strolls in the park, and spending quality time with friends and family.
I look forward to collaborating with my new colleagues at ITM and contributing to our shared goals. Here's to an exciting future together!
