Background

In her webinar "Care for migrant victims of sexual violence in Egypt: challenges and lessons learnt", ITM alumna and junior researcher Engy Sawah will focus her presentation on the background and context of sexual violence in Egypt, in particular among migrants and refugee victims of sexual violence from conflict zones. She will talk about her experience with interventions and service delivery to victims of sexual violence and present an integrated and comprehensive model of care used to address this issue in a holistic way. She will also share challenges and lessons learnt related to interventions and service delivery.

The Q&A session will be moderated by Thérèse Delvaux, scientific expert and senior researcher in the Unit of Reproductive and Maternal Health of ITM's Department of Public Health.

Engy Sawah

Junior researcher, Unit of Equity and Health, Department of Public Health, ITM Antwerp, Belgium

Engy Sawah holds a master's degree in public health. She has 10 years of experience in the field of sexual violence, torture, and ill-treatment rehabilitation among migrant populations in Egypt, encompassing operational and research roles. Her main field of interest is the access to and integration of care for migrant victims of (gender-based) violence in humanitarian settings.
