Background

As an expert in sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR), Bouchra Assarag will talk about her research findings in the field of SRHR studies in Morocco, and share her insights on the sexual and reproductive health situation in Morocco and on the strengthening of women’s and children’s rights to access quality healthcare. She will highlight the importance of the work that is being done by national and international civil associations and NGOs in the field of SRHR. Current barriers, challenges and ways to move forward will also be addressed during the talk.

The session will be moderated by Lenka Beňovå, Professor and Head of the Unit of Reproductive and Maternal Health of ITM's Department of Public Health.

Bouchra Assarag

SRHR expert, Deputy Director in charge of Studies, National School of Public Health, Ministry of Health, Morocco

Dr Bouchra Assarag is a physician with an ITM-VUB PhD in public health. She is the Deputy Director in charge of studies at the National School of Public Health (ENSP) in Rabat, Morocco. She is an expert in sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR) and an active member of national and international civil associations in the field of SRHR.

She is President of the Together for Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (EDSSR) association. As a member of the teaching staff of ENSP, she coordinated several courses in sexual and reproductive health, project management, and the monitoring and evaluation of public health strategies. She is the Moroccan coordinator of the sexual and reproductive health network of North and West Africa and coordinator of the Francophone Africa HUB of SRHM. Her research interests are related to SRHR and the access to quality and respectful obstetric care of mothers and newborns.
