Aim: to strengthen the professional competences and agency of students, alumni and staff of partner institutions, by providing access to quality postgraduate education, networking and lifelong learning opportunities.

Global programme – Education and Scholarships

The Education Programme aims to provide access to quality higher education in international and global health and global One Health, to support the professional development of alumni and staff of partner institutions, and to support the educational development of the latter. The Education Programme thus comprises a scholarship programme (for formal training and individual fellowships) and the Alliance project. The Alliance project focuses mainly on lifelong learning, including professional support and educational collaboration, which comprises its individual and institutional components respectively.

In our Theory of Change, which is in tune with that of “Higher Education and Science for Sustainable Development” within the Joint Strategic Framework, we believe that access to international, interactive and interdisciplinary short courses, master’s programmes and doctoral training are both a demand and a need in our partner countries and beyond. We also hypothesise that the impact of training and its ensuing knowledge production depends on the increased agency for change of professionals and institutions (as drivers of change). The importance of lifelong learning and regional and international networking as pathways towards change - and ultimately towards better health (SDG3 through SDG4) - should not be underestimated.

The Education Programme is complementary to the twelve country programmes and concerns education initiatives at partner institutions. It allows targeted training of additional human resources and support for educational internationalisation and innovation, be it through e.g., instructional design, the development of technology enhanced learning or the professionalisation of teaching staff. Equal access to the scholarship programme and alumni activities goes beyond the country programmes. A truly global campus at ITM is paramount for the quality of interactive education, peer learning, networking and fostering global citizenship.
