Designing sustainable health systems and strategies

Maternal and reproductive health
By focusing on maternal and newborn health, reproductive health and rights, and related health concerns, we emphasise the need for comprehensive and emergency health care. Our goal is to break down barriers to provide equitable and quality health services for women, mothers, and their babies globally, ensuring access to care for all.

Sexual health, sexually transmitted infections and HIV
Our researchers identified the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) as an African heterosexual condition that mostly affects poor people. The Polyclinic of ITM has been a medical services provider and a pioneer in breaking taboos for individuals living with HIV for decades. We believe that people in all parts of the world should be able to make informed decisions about their sexual and reproductive health and rights in enabling environments, with equal access, built on scientific evidence.

Health systems and policy
Access to affordable, quality health care is crucial for any individual. We conduct comprehensive research and educate the next generation on health systems and policy for the benefit of health worldwide. We currently focus on health workforce policies, global health initiatives, the scale-up of treatment of lifelong conditions (such as HIV and diabetes), the relation between disease control programmes and health systems strengthening, and financial access for poor populations.

Pharmaceutical Public Health
An emerging field in global health, pharmaceutical public health aims at analysing and strengthening the pharmaceutical systems. The right to health implies that everybody, everywhere should have access to the needed essential health products, included but not limited to diagnostics, vaccines and medicines.

Ecohealth
Ecohealth is an emerging interdisciplinary field that seeks to establish comprehensive, systemic approaches to address current health challenges arising at the interface between humans, animals, and their broader natural, social, and political environments.
