A-card

With the A-card, you can collect points by taking part in various cultural and sports activities. You can then exchange these points for great rewards, such as a free swimming session or a free movie ticket. You can get your A-card for free at museums, cultural centres, swimming pools, libraries, and the Antwerp City Shop.

Collecting points is easy. Every time you visit a museum, library, swimming pool, or cultural centre, simply scan your card at the A-card machine and you’ll receive one point. Points remain valid for six months. Once you’ve collected ten points, you can enjoy rewards such as:

  • A free swimming session

  • €2 discount on admission tickets

  • And more!

Parks

Antwerp Zoo

The Antwerp Zoo, located next to the Central Station, is one of the oldest zoos in the world (founded in 1843). It is home to hundreds of animal species and features beautiful 19th-century architecture and lush gardens, making it a cultural landmark.

Recreation outside of town

In and around Antwerp, you’ll find many recreational areas, including playgrounds, swimming pools, water sports facilities, petting farms, parks, and nature reserves. Feel free to ask Student Support for more information.

Heated indoor swimming pools

Swimming pools provide lockers where you can safely store your clothes.

If you would like to learn how to swim, the swimming pools mentioned here offer lessons for adults. In just ten lessons, you will learn the basics of swimming and be able to swim 25 metres. For more information, please contact Student Support.

Cycling School (Fietsschool)

The Cycling School teaches adults how to cycle in four modules. For registration or more information, please contact the Cycling School.

Cinemas

Most movies are shown in the original language with Dutch (and often French) subtitles. Children’s films are sometimes dubbed in Dutch (indicated as NV). The programme is updated every Wednesday.
