U=U safe space campaign against HIV stigma
ITM is a safe space for people living with HIV
With the U=U safe space campaign, we are calling attention to safe spaces: places where people can talk openly and safely about HIV.
Stigma remains a major challenge for people living with HIV. This is why we are spreading two key messages:
U=U (Undetectable = Untransmittable): when HIV medication is used correctly, the virus becomes undetectable and therefore untransmissible sexually.
YOU=YOU: a reminder of equality between people living with or without a disease such as HIV.
Want to show that you or your organisation is a safe space? Use our stickers to spread the message.
The U=U campaign was launched on the initiative of the social nurses of the HIV Reference Centre (HRC) in Antwerp (ITM), with the support of ViiV Healthcare and Gilead.
Want to talk?
Every year, our multidisciplinary team supports thousands of people living with HIV in managing life with a chronic illness. Need to talk or get tested? We're here for you. Make an appointment

Meet us at the International AIDS Conference 2026
Social nurses Cora Lamonte and Wenne Mertens will be attending the International AIDS Conference 2026, held from 26 to 31 July in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. They will spread the campaign message, chat with attendees and distribute stickers.

Safe space stickers
Put the sticker in a visible place to indicate that you are a safe place:
“I am informed about U=U AND stigma or discrimination doesn't stand a chance with me because YOU=YOU.”
Need more stickers? You can order them for free (while supplies last) by emailing Cora (clamonte@itg.be) or Wenne (wmertens@itg.be).
