Armand Van Deun Scholarship

Armand Van Deun was a leading figure in the field of tuberculosis research and treatment. His operational research on TB control had a major impact on diagnosis and chemotherapy. The Armand Van Deun scholarship is awarded yearly to a student of the Clinical Decision-Making for Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis (DR-TB) course.

Armand Van Deun scholarship

Armand Van Deun was a visionary researcher with an unprecedented scientific impact on the diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis. Moreover, he was the driving force behind ITM's short course Clinical Decision-Making for Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis, an intensive course that trains participants in the latest diagnostic techniques, clinical treatment protocols, and management of drug-resistant tuberculosis. In his honour, the Armand Van Deun scholarship was launched, to support clinicians and scientists from low- or middle-income countries to dedicate their professional careers to tuberculosis, just as Armand did.

What is included?

This scholarship can cover tuition and registration fees, accommodation, and a living allowance for the stay in Antwerp.

How is this scholarship awarded? What are the selection criteria?

The scholarship is awarded yearly to a student from a low- or middle-income country (LMIC). The student needs to be a citizen of an LMIC and actually live there, as defined in the OECD-DAC* list of LMICs.

Please note that the academic selection process is separate from the scholarship selection. All applications will first be assessed by the academic selection committee, based on the applicant's background, relevant experience, and motivation.

The scholarship is awarded to a student applying for the short course 'Clinical Decision-Making for Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis'. As a student, you cannot directly apply for this scholarship. The selection committee decides who to award this scholarship to, based on the applicant's background, relevant experience, and motivation.
