By mutual agreement, ITM’s Board of Governors and Director Marc-Alain Widdowson have decided to end their collaboration. Marc-Alain Widdowson will not take up a second term as director of ITM and will leave ITM by the end of June 2023. Meanwhile, the Board of Governors will start an international search for a suitable successor.

Lut Lynen will ensure the leadership of the institute from 1 April 2023 and until the appointment of a new director. She was Head of the Department of Clinical Sciences for 10 years and knows ITM inside out.

Marc-Alain Widdowson will remain with ITM until the end of June 2023 to ensure a smooth handover.

Lut Lynen: "Over the past 20 years, I have experienced working on all pillars of ITM up close: clinic, research, teaching and management as well as long-term overseas assignments (Cambodia, DRC). ITM is in my DNA. I would like to go that "extra mile" and accept the Board's request to take up the position of interim director. With their support and that of so many fine colleagues, I hope to do well."

Marc-Alain Widdowson: “It has been a privilege to work at ITM for what will be almost 4 years. It has been very satisfying to see the progress that ITM has made despite the pandemic in diversifying our education, growing our research excellence and funding, partnering more widely and finding synergies between programmes. ITM’s heart lies at the interface of science, impact and partnership, and each ITM staff member embodies these principles  working in different ways and  focus. But it’s time to move on, and I look forward to working with Lut for a smooth transition from 1 April and tie things up here for my family and myself for our next chapter. I will, however, always carry a piece of ITM with me wherever I go.”
