The RETAMA (Research Ethics Training in latinAMericA) project is dedicated to training scientists, academics, health and allied health professionals in research ethics, with the goal of improving the quality and accountability of health sciences research in Peru and Latin America.

As a member of the Technical Advisory Committee, Raffaella Ravinetto, Chairperson of the ITM Institutional Review Board, travelled to Lima from 13 to 17 January to contribute to the finalisation of RETAMA's teaching modules. Beyond this, she also took part in various discussions and awareness-raising events on research ethics.

For instance, she participated as speaker and panelist in the Jornada Internacional de Ética y Conducta Responsable en Investigación 2025, which gathered over 170 assistants and aimed to strengthen and promote ethical research practices. Collectively, we reiterated our commitment to ethical integrity and responsible research conduct. We also advocated for research ethics review to be based on reflexivity, dialogue, and consideration of contextual challenges.

The RETAMA project is led by our partners at the Alexander von Humboldt Institute of Tropical Medicine (IMTAvH) at Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (UPCH) and made possible thanks to funding from the Fogarty Program. Together, we remain committed to strengthening ethical standards in research across Latin America.
