Postgraduate Certificate - Advanced Tropical Medicine and Challenges in International Health

I'm a general practitioner from Belgium currently enrolled in postgraduate classes at the Institute of Tropical Medicine (ITM). I am completing the Postgraduate Certificate 2 - Advanced Tropical Medicine and Challenges in International Health. I chose ITM based on positive feedback from friends and colleagues and my longstanding interest in tropical diseases.

I didn't anticipate how much I would enjoy the “Challenges in International Health” part of the programme. We covered topics like health in time of crisis and disease prevention and control—topics not typically addressed in traditional medical courses. The group works were particularly beneficial, allowing for deeper learning and reflexing compared to standard theoretical classes. Additionally, the diversity among students in terms of professions, ages, and cultural backgrounds was both refreshing and enriching. Looking ahead, this postgraduate program is making me think about shifting my career toward public health. It has been a valuable and eye-opening experience.
