Junior researcher and part-time MPH student Luciana Lepore followed a tropEd-accredited training on Qualitative Research Methods and Data Management at the Institute of International Health Charité in Berlin. This training allowed her to deepen her understanding of qualitative research and its methodological approaches, and particularly supported her in the process of integrating research methods already acquired within her MPH with those of a qualitative nature for a comprehensive and integrated analysis of health and health systems. Luciana learned about and reflected on the meaning and opportunities of research aimed at identifying intervention tools that are appropriate for socio-cultural contexts and that fall within the framework of health policy advocacy for health equity.

"I was able to explore new contexts providing me with an overview of philosophical perspectives and theories of knowledge up to their application in different qualitative research experiences contributing positively to learning evidence-informed practice and tools for interdisciplinary and relevant approaches in my future research activities. I also gained clearer ideas about possible directions in qualitative research that I may explore further in my future research and professional activities”, says Luciana.

“It was interesting to be exposed to a different teaching pattern within an international context such as the Institute of International Health Charité, which was a good ground for exchange and discussion and an added value in my personal education and professional development."

The opportunity to attend a training abroad and outside of her ordinary context has allowed her to compare and connect with a different environment and new colleagues, paving the way for possible future networking opportunities in the field of public health.
