Algemene informatie

The short course Ecology, Epidemiology, and Control of Infectious Diseases introduces participants to the concepts and applications of eco-epidemiological models for infectious disease control. The course is offered online in collaboration with the University of Antwerp, Belgium.

The course is largely self-paced, built around recorded lecture material and practical exercises. With limited required interaction with other students, it’s well suited for home study and can easily be combined with a full-time job.

Please note that no scholarships are available for this course. If you pay the tuition fee from a country outside the euro zone, additional bank charges may apply.

Leerdoelstellingen

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the ecology of infectious diseases and how ecological dynamics inform the development of control strategies.
  • Apply mathematical models of the susceptible–infectious–recovered (SIR) type to analyze outbreak data through practical exercises.
  • Understand the theoretical assumptions underlying the concept of R0 (basic reproduction number).
  • Describe how environmental and climate changes influence the distribution of infectious diseases by affecting parasites, vectors, and hosts.
  • Explain how new pathogens emerge and identify key drivers of emergence.
  • Discuss how environmental interventions can support infectious disease management.
