Jil Molenaar is a researcher in the Sexual and Reproductive Health Group at ITM’s Public Health Department. She defended her PhD in September 2026, titled: Between caring and counting: Maternal and newborn health data from Tanzanian maternity wards to global indicators. Her PhD work spanned facility-level ethnography in Tanzania to qualitative interviews with international health measurement actors, exploring questions of power, standardisation and local relevance in health data systems. In addition to her thematic expertise in the politics of measurement in global maternal and neonatal health, Jil is interested in how the shifting funding landscape affects our research, policy and practice. She plans to pursue postdoctoral research on the influence of philanthropic funding in global reproductive and maternal health.
