Het Instituut voor Tropische Geneeskunde kent studiebeurzen toe aan studenten uit lage- en middeninkomenslanden.

Welke beursmogelijkheden zijn er?

DGD-studiebeurzen

De Directie-Generaal Ontwikkelingssamenwerking en Humanitaire Hulp (DGD) is de primaire beurzenverstrekker van het ITG.

Romain De Cock-studiebeurs

De Romain De Cock-studiebeurs wordt jaarlijks toegekend aan een masterstudent actief in het domein van de internationale gezondheidszorg, met een onderzoeksfocus op chirurgische, obstetrische of gynaecologische vraagstukken, beleid, of klinische kwesties die van belang zijn voor de chirurgische praktijk en de volksgezondheid.

Externe financiering

Alternatieve beursmogelijkheden worden verstrekt door verschillende sponsors, waaronder werkgevers, sponsors uit de private sector, ontwikkelingssamenwerkingsprojecten en nationale agentschappen die studies in het buitenland ondersteunen.

  • Masterprogramma's

  • Korte cursussen, internships en predoctorale stages

  • Doctoraatsopleidingen en postdoctorale stages

Wie komt in aanmerking?

Elke burger uit een laag- of middeninkomensland (LMIC) kan een aanvraag indienen. De aanvrager moet staatsburger zijn van een LMIC en er ook effectief wonen, zoals gedefinieerd in de lijst van LMIC's van de OESO-DAC*. De meeste beurzen, maar niet alle, zullen worden toegekend aan burgers uit landen die door de Directie-Generaal Ontwikkelingssamenwerking en Humanitaire Hulp (DGD) als prioritaire landen** zijn gedefinieerd. Zoals hierboven vermeld, komt elke student uit een LMIC echter in aanmerking voor een beurs.

Kandidaten met een tweede staatsburgerschap in een hooginkomensland (bv. door dubbele nationaliteit) en kandidaten die werkzaam zijn in een hooginkomensland (of die meer dan een jaar werkzaam zijn geweest in de drie jaar voorafgaand aan de beursaanvraag) komen niet in aanmerking voor een DGD-beurs.

Welke kosten worden gedekt?

DGD-beurzen kunnen reiskosten, collegegeld (inschrijvings- en studiekosten), verzekeringen en levensonderhoud dekken. Een DGD-beurs kan volledig of gedeeltelijk zijn, en slechts één of enkele onderdelen dekken (bv. alleen collegegeld of alleen levensonderhoud). In een deeltijds MSc-studietraject kan een DGD-beurs ook de kosten dekken van opleidingsonderdelen (modules) buiten het ITG, in het kader van creditmobiliteit (bv. in het tropEd-netwerk*), of bij partnerinstellingen in het kader van een samenwerkings- of gezamenlijk programma.

Hoe worden studiebeurzen toegekend? Wat zijn de selectiecriteria?

Beurzen kunnen enkel worden toegekend aan kandidaten die voldoen aan alle toelatingscriteria van de opleiding waarvoor ze zich inschrijven. Tijdens het online applicatieproces kunnen geïnteresseerden een aanvraagformulier voor een DGD-studiebeurs downloaden. Het ITG en DGD kennen de beschikbare beurzen gezamenlijk toe aan de kandidaten met de hoogste academische score. DGD-beurzen kunnen alleen worden toegekend aan kandidaten die zich in het begin of het midden van hun carrière bevinden, zoals vermeld in het beursreglement van het ITG.

De selectiecriteria werden door DGD gedefinieerd en worden gebruikt om kandidaten te rangschikken. Deze criteria zijn:

  • Persoonlijke motivatie

  • Geslacht (voorkeur voor vrouwelijke beurskandidaten bij gelijkwaardige kwalificatie)

  • Bij voorkeur nog geen DGD-beurs toegekend gekregen in het verleden (en geen eerdere studies in een hooginkomensland)

  • Bij voorkeur een tewerkstelling in een onderzoeksinstituut, een hogeronderwijsinstelling, de publieke sector, de sociale economie, een kleine of middelgrote onderneming (KMO), of een niet-gouvernementele organisatie.

  • Kenmerken en perspectieven van de tewerkstelling, op basis van de steun van een werkgever

  • Kans op professionele (re)integratie na de opleiding

  • Tewerkstelling in een context waarin de verworven kennis gedurende een aanzienlijke periode kan worden toegepast en uitgewerkt.

Komen kandidaat-doctorandi uit LMIC's in aanmerking voor een DGD-beurs?

Elk jaar worden er drie tot vijf doctoraatsbeurzen toegekend aan oudstudenten van het ITG en andere veelbelovende studenten die zich hebben aangemeld voor het doctoraatsprogramma van het ITG. Promovendi die een aanvraag indienen, moeten voldoen aan de toelatingscriteria* van DGD alvorens een DGD/PhD-beurs kan worden toegekend. Een PhD-beurs biedt financiële steun voor maximaal 48 maanden doctoraatsopleiding. Het gaat om sandwichbeurzen waarbij de student maximaal 24 maanden op het ITG kan zijn.

Romain De Cock-studiebeurs

Wie komt in aanmerking?

Studenten uit lage- of middeninkomenslanden (LMIC) die zich willen inschrijven voor de MSc in Public Health of de MSc in Tropical Medicine. Welk masterprogramma het meest relevant is, hangt af van het onderwerp van de scriptie en de keuze van de keuzevakken. De focus van het scriptieonderzoeksproject moet verband houden met chirurgische, obstetrische of gynaecologische gezondheidsthema's en kan gezondheidsbeleid (bv. toegang tot chirurgische of reproductieve gezondheidsdiensten) of klinische onderzoeksthema's (bv. antimicrobiële resistentie, infectiebeheersing) omvatten, die relevant moeten zijn voor de chirurgische praktijk. Daarbij moet de nadruk blijven liggen op het onderzoeken van een onderwerp binnen een breder volksgezondheidskader.

We moedigen geïnteresseerden aan om hun interesse in deze beurs te benadrukken in hun motivatiebrief tijdens de kandidaatstellingsprocedure.

De Romain De Cock-beurs is een volledige beurs die het collegegeld, de reiskosten en de verblijfskosten dekt.

Hoe wordt de studiebeurs toegekend? Wat zijn de selectiecriteria?

De beurs wordt jaarlijks toegekend aan een student uit een laag- of middeninkomensland (LMIC). Dezelfde selectiecriteria als de DGD-beurzen zijn van toepassing (zie hierboven).
